Arrowhead hockey team topples USM

By Chuck Delsman (Lake Country Reporter)

December 09, 2016 — Playing three games against quality teams in a span of just five days, the Arrowhead boys hockey team had one of its best stretches of success in school history.

The week started on Dec. 6 when goalie Aaron Nicholson and the AHS defense blanked Marquette, 3-0. Two nights later, hosting highly touted and defending Classic 8 Conference champion University School of Milwaukee, the Warhawks turned in a brilliant third-period performance and stopped the Wildcats, 6-3.

Arrowhead then capped off the week by scoring a 5-2 road victory over the host Fox Cities Stars. Prior to those three wins, AHS also downed the defending state champion Appleton United.

"We just completed a pretty good four game stretch," said highly successful Arrowhead coach Carl Valimont, who celebrated his 200th high school coaching win against University School. "To go and beat Appleton, Marquette, USM and Fox Cities in four straight games is a credit to our coaching staff and certainly the kids. Our guys are getting better and better at playing as a team. That's the only way we can succeed. We're getting a lot better at closing out games. We're doing a lot of the little things that it takes to win."

Arrowhead hockey team blanks defending champ Appleton

By Chuck Delsman (Lake Country Reporter)

December 04, 2016 — One year ago, the Appleton boys hockey team had a banner season, winning the WIAA state championship.

However, all of that success didn't matter much on Dec. 3 to host Arrowhead. The Warhawks turned in a solid performance and blanked the United by a 3-0 score.

"This was a good, quality win for us," said AHS coach Carl Valimont. "We were a little shorthanded but a lot of guys stepped up and played well. They won the state championship last year. We played well, but we still have a lot of work to do."

The win over Appleton improved the Warhawks to 3-1 on the season.

AHS hockey team looks solid

By chuck Delsman (Lake Country Reporter)

November 20, 2016 — Last year, coach Carl Valimont returned to the Arrowhead boys hockey program and brought success back with him. Fans of the program are hoping for more of the same in the second year of the second stanza of Valimont's tenure.

During the 2014-15 season, under coach Josh Engel, the Warhawks struggled from the start, finishing with a 7-16-1 record. After Engel resigned, Valimont brought instant success to the Arrowhead program, leading the Warhawks to a 16-6 mark and a second-place finish in the highly competitive Classic 8 Conference.
With Valimont back for a second straight season and 13 players returning from one year ago, things are looking bright this winter.

"We have a lot of players back from last year and that's a good place to start," Valimont said. "We had to change the culture of the program one year ago, and the kids bought into it. They had to if they wanted to win. Now, we have to move forward and build on that success and try to get better this time around."
